Meet Monika Kinner-Whalen, the owner and textile artist behind My Sweet Prairie. Monika creates and sells landscape embroidery (wall art), prairie inspired mini thread paintings. art print greeting cards, and yarn in selected colourways for art/embroidery/embellishing.

Monika was raised by a landscape artist working in pastels, and as an adult when she had her own children, she taught herself how to quilt. One day she discovered that she could stitch the landscape, and has been doing that daily ever since. Monika now works as a full time artist and sells her works worldwide. She also teaches a variety of techniques, including the popular “Letting the Yarn Speak” class at our festival this year.
Monika said she is smitten by the prairie landscape “the ever changing light, big skies, and the four distinct seasons.” She loves stitching and the prairies, so it is a perfect combination for her that she finds incredibly fulfilling.
“The favourite piece I’ve created? It’s still in my head & heart. I’ll show you when it’s done. : ) My favourite colours are Yellows, Chartreuse, Tangerine, Teal, Purple, Crimson, Ice blue, Rose, hahha everything. I love colour!”

Make sure to stop by My Sweet Prairie and say hello to Monika and her beautiful landscape embroidery!
