Demonstrations & Contests
The Manitoba Fibre Festival is enhanced every year with our many incredible demonstrations and fibre contests, featuring the talents of local guilds, clubs, living history groups, artisans, and makers!
2025 Demonstrations
Visitors are treated to many demonstrations and DIY stations at the Manitoba Fibre Festival!
Volunteers from local crafts guilds, clubs and living history groups share their skills covering techniques from finger weaving to machine knitting. Professional sheep shearers demonstrate the strength and precision needed to give a sheep a haircut.
Seating areas are provided for spinners and knitters to gather round in good company. Bring your current project and plan to stay awhile!

One Year One Outfit Display from Pembina Fibreshed
Local Fibre, Local Labour, Local Colour at the Manitoba Fibre Festival
One Year One Outfit is a community-based collection of stories and fibre pieces exploring local material and human resources, coordinated by the Pembina Fibreshed. Participants spend 12 months growing, designing and constructing wearable items made exclusively from locally sourced materials. From tanned buckskin and handspun wool to local clay buttons and basketry, the One Year One Outfit pieces showcase the abundance of fibre and botanical colour available in our local fibreshed, as well as the skills and ingenuity of its makers.
Pattern Contest & Collections
The Festival has been the launchpad for many local fibre-based ventures, including pattern designers! With pattern design contests and collections, Manitoba Fibre Festival’s highlighted patterns feature both local yarn and fibre businesses as well as local designers. In 2024, these patterns expanded from knitting to include crochet and weaving as well.
