Enter the Manitoba Fibre Festival FIBRE FLOCK PHOTO CONTEST!  We encourage photographers of any skill level to explore the beauty of fibre producing animals in our province. New in 2024 - photos of fibre plants such as flax, nettle and hemp are also welcome!

About the Contest:

  • Photos can be taken with any kind of camera (smartphones, DSLR, etc)

  • Photos must be taken within the year 2024

  • Photos can be of any fibre animal (sheep, alpaca, llama, angora rabbit, angora goat, camel, bison etc); or of a fibre plant such as flax, nettle or hemp at any stage of growth pre-harvest

  • Photo submission must be printed 

  • Photos will be on display during the Fibre Festival at the Red River Ex September 6 - 7, 2024

  • Photos will be judged on composition, quality and creativity

Rules & Regulations for Photo Contest 

  • Contest is open to residents of Manitoba.

  • The photo must be taken by the contestant.

  • Each contestant can submit up to 5 photos. 

  • Photos must be printed in colour or black and white - please no mounting of the photos. Photos can be up to a maximum size of 8x10

  • Please include the registration form with your photo submissions

  • No entry fee!

Photos must be received by no later than Friday, September 6th, 2024 at 12 noon.

  • Submission of photographs implies consent for the photo to be used in future promotions for the Manitoba Fibre Festival in both digital and print reproductions. All credit will be given to the photographers.

  • Photos will not be returned to the contestant.

Photos will be judged on:

  • Artistic merit

  • Presentation and creativity

  • Overall quality of the image

Judging will occur on Friday September 6th, 2024 and prizes will be awarded following the shearing demonstration on Friday evening. One prize will be awarded in each category:

Categories for Photo Contest:

  • Portraits (head or whole body) of a fibre animal

  • Lambs and crias

  • Landscapes and full flocks

  • Fibre Activities - shearing, spinning, knitting etc
