Manitoba Fibre Festival and Wolseley Wool are pleased to announce a pattern design contest for the 2024 Festival!
Read on for details on how to apply. First-time designers welcome!
Entrants must be residents of Manitoba, Saskatchewan, or northwest Ontario.
Designs must:
feature Icelandic wool – our 2024 breed of the year!
be for accessories, NOT garments or home goods (e.g. shawls, hats, mittens, socks, cowls)
be for one or a combination of the following crafts*: knitting, crochet, weaving
be a new design inspired by this year’s moodboard

*You are welcome to spin your own yarn, however this will not be a deciding factor in the winner selection. Machine patterns (knitting machines, mechanical looms) are not eligible.
Winner will be expected to adhere to the set of deadlines below. If you are unable to commit to this, please do not apply.
Submission requirements (please include all in the same PDF document):

email address
social media handles (optional; e.g. Instagram, Ravelry, etc.)
pattern description and inspiration (tell us what you’re proposing, what’s special about it, and how it fits our 2024 theme). You do not need to submit a finished project or a complete pattern. We will work with the winning designer to get their pattern ready for release.
recommended yarn(s) and supplies (knitting needles, crochet hooks, type of loom)
photo of swatch (showcase any special stitches you’re planning to use and/or yarn choice!)
entrants must be residents of Manitoba, Saskatchewan or northwest Ontario

Do NOT provide photos of finished projects or complete patterns.

Winner announced by May 8, 2024
Finished pattern (including photos of completed sample(s), tech editing, and optional test knitting) due by June 30, 2024
Pattern release early July, 2024
Manitoba Fibre Festival: September 6 & 7, 2024
Winner receives:
gift certificate to Wolseley Wool
free entrance for themselves and a guest to 2024 Manitoba Fibre Festival
promotion of winning pattern through Wolseley Wool and MB Fibre Festival social media
full control over pattern sales (board member ash alberg can assist with setting up online shops, arranging kit sales with local shops, etc.)
display of pattern sample at the Festival
Manitoba Fibre Festival and board member ash alberg of sunflower knit are able to assist with coordinating photoshoots, tech editing, and test knitting, as well as setting up a basic online design shop for first-time designers, if the winner needs.
